Events Roundup – October 2014

Friday, October 3- Sunday, October 5: Listen to live music at Sonic Circuits Festival 2014. This experimental music festival takes over Pyramid Atlantic with over 20 acts and hours upon hours of music you won’t hear anywhere else. Tickets range from $15-$20 per day (students get $5.00 off regular price). Pair a concert with dinner and drinks down the street at Pacci’s or chill out after a show at the Quarry House.

Friday, October 3, 6:30-8:30pm: PechaKucha comes to Silver Spring! Three local presenters will each share 20 slides that last 20 seconds each – all on different topics. Come to learn, laugh and have a few beers after work at Creative Colony. Cost: $5 – Click here for tickets.

Sunday, October 5, 3:00pm: Head over to the AFI Silver for a free screening of “Book Of Life” with a Q&A afterwards with the director, Jorge R. Gutierrez. This new animated movie inspired by Mexican Day of the Dead celebrations opens in theatres on Oct. 17, so this is your chance to see it first! We will be podcasting after with Meagan Healy and the director.

Saturday, October 11, 10:00am-1:00pm: Silver Spring Shares Book Swap at Kefa Cafe. Find a new favorite book while you pick up your morning cup of coffee. Silver Spring Shares will be coordinating this book exchange to make sure good books end up in good hands! Bring a few of your favorites to share with your neighbors. Got more books to donate? Check out this donation opportunity to benefit Oakview Elementary School.

Thursday, October 16, 7:00-8:00pm: Check out the talented dancers at La Malinche’s Flamenco Dance night. Go early for tapas and happy hour specials.

Thursday, October 23, 5:00-8:00pm: Crafty Hour at Pennyworth Thrift Store with the Fenton Street Market ladies. Craft your cares away! Bring your own projects or use provided supplies. Then hop across the street for dinner at Mandalay (ginger salad anyone?).

Saturday, October 25, time TBD: Silver Spring Zombie Walk. It’s baaaaack! We’ll start at Jackie’s and head down to the AFI Silver for a showing of Dead Snow 2. Join us for a video podcasting after the movie.

Tuesday, October 28, 7:00-9:00pm: Our second Silver Spring Tweet Up goes down at Denizen’s. The first was so much fun, we had to throw another. Come to put faces with twitter handles and drink some local brews. Tweet to us @SilverSpringInc to RSVP.
