Local Biz: Bell Flowers – Chad Mangum

Bell Flowers has been providing beautiful flowers to the area since 1947. That is one of the oldest businesses in the area, and Chad Mangum is the current, fourth generation owner of the business. Chad was born and raised in the area, and has seen the astounding changes that have happened.

“I can remember Ellsworth being a skate park, a McDonalds, and just a couple restaurants. You can look at it now, and the downtown revitalization has just been incredible.”

As owner of a historically significant business that is firmly embedded in the community, Chad has a fairly unique perspective of Silver Spring. As such, a lot of his thoughts on the area revolve around business, the failings, and potential changes that could improve the area.

“I’d like to see the council and the county executive be more business friendly and try to draw in more businesses… Ever since being on the board of the Chamber, it’s opened my eyes to the political side of things and made me realize we have to do something about creating a more business-friendly environment.”

A DC Native, people say I'm rude and abrasive; I say I'm passionate. I've been working in marketing since 2005. My brothers and I paid Geppi's rent through the 80s and 90s. My relief at an indoor wavepool never materializing in Silver Spring is balanced by my disappointment that City Place has dozens of shuttered storefronts. I love what you've done with your hair.
