Events Roundup – July 2015

Wednesday, July 1 & July 15, 7:00-9:00pm: Electronic Musician Jam at Joe’s Record Paradise. Free and brought to you by Mighty Hip – a website that highlights local musicians.

Saturday, July 4: Fourth of July festivities in Takoma Park. Yes, I know it’s in Takoma Park and not Silver Spring, but there’s no Fenton Street Market this day. And TP does the 4th right with the best parade and fireworks around! Parade begins at 10:00am, so go early and snag a shady spot along the route. Then head to TP Middle School for music and fireworks starting at 7:00pm. Details here.

Thursday, July 9, 7:30-10:00pm: Contra Dancing at the Civic Building. Try out the special dance floor in the Great Hall. Free for first-timers and $10 general admission.

Friday, July 10, 7:00-9:00pm: PechaKucha Vol. 4 at Pyramid Atlantic. Brought to you by Silver Spring Inc, Fenton Street Market & Creative Colony, this edition’s theme is FOOD, so come hungry. And thirsty – Denizen’s is providing beer! Don’t know what PechaKucha is? Look here. $10 tickets available online (not at the door) & always sell out.

Friday, July 10th; Saturday, July 11th, & Sunday, July 19th: Only Human: Finding Unity through Diversity – The Highwood Theatre’s Open Source Theatre Project featuring a variety of local professional performing artists will explore diversity and human connection through the medium of art. Tickets are available for $20 per person and are on sale at http://www.thehighwoodtheatre.org/tickets.html

Friday, July 31, 9:00pm-midnight: Sonic Circuits presents PAS Musique, Chuck Johnson & the Big Drum in the Sky Religion perform at Pyramid Atlantic. I’m doubling down on electronic music this month, but I couldn’t explain this music if I tried so read more about it here.

All month: escape the heat and see some art at the Betty Mae Kramer Gallery in the Civic Building. This month’s exhibit is Forms Emerge, a group show featuring local artists’ works focused on our personal relationship with space and environment. Free, open Monday-Friday, 9:00am-6:00pm.

Pete Tan
A DC Native, people say I'm rude and abrasive; I say I'm passionate. I've been working in marketing since 2005. My brothers and I paid Geppi's rent through the 80s and 90s. My relief at an indoor wavepool never materializing in Silver Spring is balanced by my disappointment that City Place has dozens of shuttered storefronts. I love what you've done with your hair.
